On your question though, the North Star can be seen past the equator around 23 degrees or so, which is impossible on a ball earth.
That is what you are supposed to think as a member of a herd.....where is the north star? If you weren't, would it matter to you? Do we have our north dirt? Dirt is more important than stars, but nobody is talking about our north dirt!
I have this same question. I'm trying to be fair and consider counterpoints against flat earth as well as for. I've heard this come up more than once as a counterpoint.

I would speculate that it's atmospheric conditions because it keep us from seeing to far.
