Doing an experiment with my Nikon Coolpix P1000+NiSi Solar filter. I took two pictures of the sun one at 7:00 in the morning and another at 1:15pm. There was a slight change in a size maybe 5% tops. Which you could blame on the atmosphere, considering the morning one was the slightly smaller(Left) one.
The question I have is if the Earth's flat, you would think it would be significantly smaller at sunrise and sunset. Versus what it would be at noon. That isn't what I observed.
The 3000mi up sun isnt making awhole lot of since. If the sun is really millions of miles away, and the earth a obalte sphereical ball, as the sun merely traveres the sky it would mantain the same size. As the earth rotates. Whereas if it were local, due to perspective it should get alot bigger and smaller.
If you dont think that is what the sun looks like with a solar filter. Feel free watching me put in on my camera and zooming into the sun with the P1000.
Perhaps one of the your wiser elder's could explain why its not getting smaller.
Very interesting and I get your point. Do you live in a flatter open place where the sunrise is further away? I don't have a camera and I'm surrounded by mountains, so when she sun rises and sets for me, it's over a mountain close by. Where I frequent in Wyoming however, the sun rises from a flat horizon. It appears smaller to me visually but I'd love to try photographing it up there at different times of day. I do agree with the other commenter that there are many unknowables. I don't automatically believe one or the other, the sun might not be 3,000 miles away but that doesn't automatically mean it's 3 million and we're on a spinning globe from a big bang. We maybe never know, but experimenting and keeping an open mind is helpful.
There are far too many "unknowables" to ever be able to definitively answer most questions we can have about the sun and the moon. There are far too many travel restrictions forced upon us by the controllers of Earth to get any imperical evidence. Hypotheses are the best we can have on this side of eternity. Isn't that what the worshipers of Saturn do? Guess at everything and tell us their "data" are facts?
