Hello, - I'm trying to find out for the book I'm writing, where my character crosses through the Antartic barrier and begins to sail in the Sirsirian Ocean on a journey to the different continents in the outer ring(s)
Do you think a compass will still read / point to magnetic North after moving into the ring(s) on the other side of the Antarctic barrier?
I'm looking at The World Beyond the Ice Wall Map - and I'm wondering how my character can navigate to those other continents using a compass
I mostly belive the Terra Infinita Map to be the layout - an almost endless flat expanse beyond.
However, what cuases me to be undecided is where the firmament comes down to meet the land - and - how navigation is done ?
--- Can anyone shed some speculative theory on the navigation methods?
- I guess the #1 question is: How long does magnetic North last for the further you travel away from the centre of our realm here?
The firmament might not come down to meet the land. It could be a plane above, and a plane below. Ironically, "Super String Theory" dabbles with this idea, but pulls it into a infinite space vacuum.
